Winter Fellowship Banquet
On December 21, 2009, the Shawnee Lodge hosted one of the largest
Winter Fellowship banquets in the past two decades. The annual
business meeting opened with the invocation by former Lodge Chief
Kevin Wiese, followed by the introduction of guests which included
representatives from the Section Officers as well as the National
Chief Jack O’Neill. After the reading of the minutes from last year’s
business meeting and the current lodge finances, there was a brief
presentation on the new camp promotion program. Then, the anniversary
patch program was announced to the Lodge and the patch cards were
passed out. After the patch presentation, the individual Chapter
Chiefs were recognized followed by a few comments from Section Officer
Brent Wessel. The program for the 2010 One Day of Service was announced
preceding the recognizing of the Chapter Advisers. The upcoming
Ceremonial Team Seminar was then further promoted and then guest speaker, Jack
O’Neill, National Chief for 2009, took the floor with a reflection on
his year in office. After the presentation of 25 Vigil Honor
nominees for 2010, the night was concluded with a segment from the Pre-Ordeal
Ceremony to help us reflect upon our purpose in the Order of the
Arrow.
The highlight of the night occurred before the
meeting even started; this was of course the success with the Toys for
Tots program. The marines that bore witness to the pile of toys
donated were blown away. They were forced to make a phone call to
their fellow marines in order to get another truck to get all of the
donations back to their base. With this representing the tremendous
success, it offers a look at the success of scouting over the course
of its century of existence. I just wanted to thank everyone who
helped make this event such a success, including the United States
Marine Corps for making their presence and for fighting for our
country, the Machinists from District 9 who allowed us to use their
facilities, and to all Lodge members for making their presence to make
the banquet such a success.
