A Message From Your Chief

Dear Brothers,
There is a great camping opportunity for those scouts who want to get a deeper understanding of what it means to be in the Order of the Arrow. OA summer camp is going to be held July 27 – August 1 at Camp Famous Eagle. This will be a week filled with the many great things that the Ranch has to offer; water tubing, Huck’s cove, and much much more. The cost is going to be $190; which includes all of your meals and some kits to help get you started on your regalia. Visit the Shawnee Lodge websitefor more information. Camp Promotion has started and we could use all the help we can get to promote some of the great things we have for scouts of all ages. Performing this service for another troop can count towards achieving the Brotherhood honor. If you have not already signed up to promote a troop near you, feel free to contact Jeremy Weltmer or myself through the New Horizons OA website. We have a few fun weekends coming up this month. First we have the one day of service on April 4-6 at S-F Scout Ranch. Then we have the spring conclave on April 18-20 at Beaumont Scout Reservation. That weekend will be the last chance for those scouts who were elected over the summer to complete their Ordeal membership. It is also a chance to serve your fellow scouts by becoming an Elangomat. Elangomats are necessary to lead clans at their service projects and help keep the candidates up to date with what is going on in the lodge. This is a brotherhood requirement and is a lot of fun to do. If you wish to be an Elangomat please contact me. Ceremonialists are invited to eat with the chapter this year. The cost is going to be $12 and this will help free up some of your time to prepare your sites for the night’s ceremonies. You need to register with Mr. Shull or myself by April 11. Finally we have the spring camporee at S-F on April 25-27. This is a great opportunity for scouts to get to know other scouts in their district by working staff and making new friends. If you wish to work staff contact Zach Brand, this year’s campmaster, at zbrand352@yahoo.com. And if you are not able to attend this camporee there is going to be a service project that Saturday, April 26, at Chesterfield Central City Park. We will be helping with their Arbor Day Event by directing traffic, setup/take down, and manning recycling stations. If you wish to participate and are under 18 you will need to have a signed permission slip, available on New Horizons website.
May 13 will be our chapter meeting. It is going to be at Congregation Shaare Emeth, 11645 Ladue Road, at 7:00 Pm. We are going to have a carnival filled with fun games and lots of prizes. We will also have a quick service project before the meeting, spreading mulch along a trail. If you could bring rakes, buckets, or shovels to help out that would be great. Everyone in attendance can wear a class B uniform; scout shorts and a scouting related T-shirt. It is going to be a lot of fun.
And as always visit our website, www.newhorizonsoa.org, where you can find cool things and other resources about our chapter. If you have any questions email me and I look forward to a great spring!

Yours in Brotherhood,
Ed Nahlik

Ceremonial Teams

Ceremonial Teams are an integral part of our program.
In a chapter as large as ours, we need much help and participation in this program. Currently, our numbers and quality teams are improving, but we still need a great deal of  help to get to where we need to be. To all of those who have stepped forward, I am extremely grateful. To those of you who have not yet taken the step forward to participate, I encourage you to do so. Please email
newhorizons@shawneelodge.org for more information. We've had two great ceremonial team meetings so far this year and it is just getting started.
