Biographies for the 2006 Nominees
These are the twenty-three nominees announced at the
2005 Winter Fellowship Banquet. The ceremony for the Vigil Honor
will be performed at the Spring Conclave. For more information

Chad J. Brenton
Eagle Scout Chad Brenton is a dedicated and important
contributor to the Order of the Arrow and the Scouting program. Chad
served as a leader in his troop through five summer camps and two high
adventure camps. In service to the district he has worked on camporee
and klondike staffs. His dedication to the camping program has carried
over in his commitment to the Council’s camping program as a member of
the summer camp staff for the past three summers. Chad has served the
Lodge as the Publications Chairman and has recently finished his term
as the Lodge Treasurer. For his strong involvement and effort in
Scouting, we wholeheartedly nominate Chad J. Brenton for the Vigil
Honor.
Patrick E. Campbell
Scouter Pat Campbell has supported the Scouting program
for many years and is a valuable asset to the Order of the Arrow. Pat
has served as an adviser with his chapter in areas of service,
ceremonies, and camp promotion. He plays an active role in assisting
with Ordeal and Brotherhood teams. His selfless service includes three
treks to Philmont and many weekend campouts with his troop. He has
participated in multiple camp promotions and service projects. For his
behind-the-scenes effort, we readily nominate Patrick E. Campbell for
the Vigil Honor.
Mark J. Conley
Mark Conley, through years of dedicated service to the
Scouting program, truly exemplifies the ideals of the Order of the
Arrow. He has served as a Council Ranger for the past 29 years. Mark
has worked on staff for the Long Ride, the Nagel Horse Camp as well as
the Swift Horse Camp. Along with helping staff the horse camps; he
helps maintain Beaumont Scout Reservation. He has offered his service
to the Order through camp promotion and service projects. Because of
his dedication to the Council program, we jubilantly nominate Mark J.
Conley for the Vigil Honor.
Donald W. Dotson
Donald Dotson has shown continuous service to the Order
of the Arrow and the camping program. As an adult, he continues his
service by having served on staff for section conclaves and the 2005
National Jamboree. He has served his district on several camporee and
klondike staffs as an adviser and by serving on the district camping
committee. His service is also expressed through his talent as an
artist by assisting with projects at the district, council, and
section levels. Mr. Dotson has received the District Award of Merit,
and he is currently serving as the District Camping Chairman. For his
true dedication and service to the Scouting program, we proudly
nominate Donald W. Dotson for the Vigil Honor.
Kyle X. Foley
An Eagle Scout with four palms, Kyle Foley has proven
himself a strong asset to the Order of the Arrow through steadfast
commitment to both the lodge and camping programs. Kyle is currently
serving as Lodge Corresponding Secretary. Previously he served on the
lodge level as the Brotherhood Chairman. Besides service to the Lodge,
Kyle has served as Campmaster for his district’s Fall Camporee and is
a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster for his troop. On the council level,
Kyle has served on camp staff for the past three summers. For his
continued dedication to the entire Scouting program, we honorably
nominate Kyle X. Foley for the Vigil Honor.
Kevin T. Ganley
Scouter Kevin Ganley has firmly supported the Scouting
program and the Order of the Arrow for many years. For the past 20
years, Kevin has provided the opportunity for over 100 Eagle Scout
projects as well as service projects and camping experiences for many
of the Greater St. Louis Area Council troops and packs. He has served
his district by assisting with training and camporees. Kevin has
attended several section conclaves, National OA Conferences, and
Philmont. For his strong involvement and dedication to Scouting, we
humbly nominate Kevin T. Ganley for the Vigil Honor.
Eric N. Gill
Eagle Scout Eric Gill has demonstrated tireless service
to the Order of the Arrow and the camping program. Eric served his
chapter as both Camp Promotion Chairman and Secretary before serving
as Chapter Chief last year. He has served on ceremonial teams for five
years and participated in many camp promotions and service projects.
He is currently serving as the Lodge Camp Promotion Chairman. Eric
attended two section conclaves and served on Council’s summer camp
staff for two years. For his unwavering dedication to the Order and
the camping program, we ardently nominate Eric N. Gill for the Vigil
Honor.
Brian E. Hackworth Jr.
Brian Hackworth has tirelessly demonstrated his
dedication to the Order of the Arrow and the Scouting program. As an
Eagle Scout Brian has held numerous leadership positions on both lodge
and chapter levels, such as Chapter Chief and Program Chairman. For
the last two years he worked summer camp staff teaching Scouts to live
by the Scout Oath and Law. Brian has also provided leadership at
numerous events such as camporees, fall reunions, spring conclaves,
and Scouting for Food. This past year, Brian worked as Activities
Co-Chairman for the section conclave. For his service to the Order of
the Arrow, we eagerly nominate Brian E. Hackworth Jr. for the Vigil
Honor.
James R. Haner
An Eagle Scout with three palms, James Haner
demonstrated unwavering service and leadership as a member of the
Order of the Arrow. James served his chapter as the Brotherhood
Chairman and Service Chairman and is currently First Vice-Chief. He
has served as an Elangomat, conducted camp promotions, has attended
two section conclaves, and has served on ceremonial teams for his
chapter. On a district level James has served on camporee and klondike
staffs. For his consistent service to Scouting and the Order of the
Arrow, we eagerly nominate James R. Haner for the Vigil Honor.
John J. Jabouri
John Jabouri has displayed true Scout spirit and
exemplifies the values of a member in the Brotherhood of cheerful
service. He has served on staff at numerous district klondike and
camporees. He has served on his chapter’s ceremonial team for the past
three years, as well as serving as Camp Promotion and Program
Chairman. His “Scouting for Books” Eagle Scout project started in
2002, which he still continues to support, has delivered over 100,000
books to date. He has given leadership to countless Scouts through
numerous years on National Youth Leadership Training staffs. For his
service and dedication to the Scouting program, we honorably nominate
John J. Jabouri for the Vigil Honor.
Kurt S. Kestermeier
Kurt Kestermeier has displayed tireless dedication to
the Order of the Arrow and the Scouting program. For more than 10
years Kurt has helped Scouts to understand what the ceremonies of our
Order truly mean by using his vast knowledge of Native American
tradition as well as the many purposes of the Order of the Arrow. Kurt
has served on staff for OA Summer Camps and section conclaves.
Throughout his years in Scouting, Kurt has received the District Award
of Merit and the Distinguished Arrowman Award. For his continuous
dedication to the Order of the Arrow, we nominate Kurt S. Kestermeier
for the Vigil Honor.
Edward L. Knarr
Scouter Skip Knarr exemplifies the spirit of Scouting
and Order of the Arrow. He serves the camping program by making the
challenge and rocks courses among the best in the country. Serving as
course director and a national COPE instructor, he takes an active
role in course maintenance and reconstruction and enables thousands of
Scouts to participate in this popular and dynamic program. In his
chapter, Skip has served many years as a Ceremonial Team Adviser. For
his tireless service to Scouting and the Order of the Arrow, we
respectfully nominate Edward L. Knarr for the Vigil Honor.
Maxwell A. Knocke
Eagle Scout Maxwell Knocke has proudly dedicated his
time and service to the Order of the Arrow. Max is a valuable member
of his chapter, having served as both First Vice-Chief and Chapter
Chief. Last year Max served as Activities Co-Chairman for the section
conclave. He continues to demonstrate his dedication by serving as
Lodge Treasurer. On a district level Max has served on numerous
camporee and klondike staffs. Max has attended the Florida Sea Base
and the National OA Conference. For his outstanding service to the
Order of the Arrow, we proudly nominate Maxwell A. Knocke for the
Vigil Honor.
David A. Lucas
David Lucas is undaunted in his support for the
Scouting program. He has served as an adult leader for 25 years,
including as an assistant scoutmaster, chartered organization
representative, and assistant district commissioner throughout those
years. He continues to serve the camping program by being a merit
badge counselor for a variety of merit badges and taking Scouts on
weeklong and high adventure camping trips. David has participated in
service projects, camp promotions, and camporee staffs. For his
tireless devotion to Scouting and the Order of the Arrow, we
respectfully nominate David A. Lucas for the Vigil Honor.
Anthony M. Mortellaro
Scouter Anthony Mortellaro exemplifies the sprit of
Scouting and the Order of the Arrow. He has served as a member of the
District Camping Committee, has been on several training staffs, and
has been the adviser for a ceremonial team. In his district, he was a
member and adviser to numerous camporee and klondike staffs. He
attended several section conclaves. Tony has been active as a member
and chairman of the Council’s Quartermaster Corps. For his dedication
to the Order of the Arrow, we enthusiastically nominate Anthony M.
Mortellaro for the Vigil Honor.
Eric A. Myers
Eagle Scout Eric Myers has shown true dedication to
leadership in service. Eric served his chapter as Service Chairman as
well as First Vice-Chief. He is currently serving his second term as
Chapter Chief. Eric has demonstrated leadership while serving as an
Elangomat several times and while working on countless service
projects. He has attended two section conclaves and has received his
chapter’s Distinguished Arrowman Award. For his undaunted commitment
to leadership in service, we cheerfully nominate Eric A. Myers for the
Vigil Honor.
Thomas J. Noel
Scouter Tom Noel’s dedication to the camping program is
a valuable asset. He earned the rank of Eagle as a youth. Currently,
he is serving as his district’s Camping Chairman. For many years now,
he has assisted on camporee and klondike staffs. He has aided many
service projects and participated in numerous camp promotions. Twice
he has attended section conclaves along with a trip to Philmont. He
provides leadership as a staff member for the Council’s NYLT as well
as his district training staff. For his unwavering service to the
camping program, we enthusiastically nominate Thomas J. Noel for the
Vigil Honor.
Robert E. Palmer II
Bob Palmer truly exemplifies the principles of Scouting
and the Order of the Arrow. As a youth, he earned the rank of Eagle
Scout. He has served his troop as unit leader and attended 15 weeklong
summer camps. Within his chapter, he has served as the Camp Promotion
Adviser as well as advising a ceremonial team. Dedication to his
district’s camping program has been shown through his service with
numerous camporee and klondike staffs. He has attended Philmont, Sea
Base, and two section conclaves. For his continued service to the
Order of the Arrow and Scouting, we gladly nominate Robert E. Palmer
II for the Vigil Honor.
Christopher A. Perry
Eagle Scout Chris Perry is a valuable asset to the
Order of the Arrow and the Scouting Program. He has served as Chapter
First and Second Vice-Chiefs giving time and leadership to Order of
the Arrow events and service projects. At the lodge level, he served
as the Recording Secretary. For four years, Chris has served on the
Council’s summer camp staff, serving as a living example of the Scout
Oath and Law. He has served on numerous district camporee and klondike
staffs. For his outstanding service to the Scouting program, we
enthusiastically nominate Christopher A. Perry for the Vigil Honor.
Joel A. Portman
Joel Portman is a strong and responsible leader both in
the Order of the Arrow and Scouting. Besides earning the rank of
Eagle, Joel has also earned three palms. In over five years in his
district, he has served on at least 10 camporee staffs, serving as an
area director for four of them and as Campmaster for one. In the Order
of the Arrow, Joel has served his chapter as the Website Chairman,
Second Vice-Chief, and is currently serving his chapter as Chief. He
has helped the Shawnee Lodge staff the past two section conclaves and
has even served on the Council’s summer camp staff. For his consistent
service to Scouting and the Order of the Arrow, we proudly nominate
Joel A. Portman for the Vigil Honor.
Alexander M. Rudolph
Alex Rudolph has proven himself a valuable asset to the
Order of the Arrow through his strong commitment to both the lodge and
camping program. Alex has served as Lodge Brotherhood Chairman,
Service Chairman, and Banquet Chairman. This past summer, he served as
the Order of the Arrow Summer Camp Coordinator. Besides service to the
Lodge, Alex has served on his district camporee staff. On the council
level, Eagle Scout Alex Rudolph has served on camp staff for the past
three summers. For his continued dedication to the entire Scouting
program, we proudly nominate Alexander M. Rudolph for the Vigil Honor.
Steve A. Santen
Scouter Steve Santen has shown unwavering dedication to
the camping program and to Order of the Arrow. As a youth, he earned
the rank of Eagle Scout. In his troop, he is currently serving as
Scoutmaster, a position that he has held for the past ten years. He
has served three years as Chapter Adviser, has been a member of his
district’s camping committee for ten years, and served as the District
Camping Chairman. He has also helped and served on numerous NYLT
staffs. He has attended several section conclaves and a National Order
of the Arrow Conference. For his tireless service to Scouting and the
Order of the Arrow, we proudly nominate Steve A. Santen for the Vigil
Honor.
Michael S. Swank
Eagle Scout Michael Swank has demonstrated true
Scouting spirit to the Order of the Arrow and the camping program. For
his district, Michael has worked a number of camporee and klondike
staffs, even serving as Campmaster for one of them. He has furthered
his service into his chapter by participating in many camp promotions,
crossover teams, and service projects. Michael has been an Elangomat,
a ceremonial team member, and the Lodge Dance Team Chairman. His
chapter chose him as its First Vice-Chief, and currently as their
Chief. For his dedication to the camping program, we proudly nominate
Michael S. Swank for the Vigil Honor.
